Ladies, generally you get 6 weeks for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for c section for maternity leave, but really you can get up to 12 weeks. Alot of places won't tell you that but when you fill out your maternity leave papers, you just request 12 weeks.

yes you should be allowed 12 but they don't have to pay you.

I was never fortunate enough to get paid though for any of it. The U.S. has some of the worst maternity leave benefits.

@junebaby, oh no your not paid the 12 weeks. the first 6 weeks can be paid depending if you even qualifie for the pay and the last 6weeks are considered personal leave so there's no pay. I'm not getting paid for any of my leave because I'm part time.

No you can get approved to have leave and they cant fire you but your employer doesn't have to pay you. just depends on the company policy. it does suck.

@junebaby, ohhh. I wasn't approved, I just called HR and requested a Leave of absence, and then I go back.

Also, in California and if you rate short term disability insurance , you have the regular 6 or 8 weeks SDI plus and addition 6 weeks of Paid Family Leave payable at 60% of your salary. The best part is it does not have to be taken all at once or even immediately. You have up until your babies 1st bday to take it for baby bonding time.
