I think that Single Mom term gets used much too loosely. If you and your child's father break up but he is still actively involved in the parenting of your child i.e financial support, at every doc visit, teacher conference, extra activity, if you can call him when you need anything for you child I don't think you're a single mother. I think a single mother is someone who gets no help from the other parent. Women who successfully coparent with their exs are single women as in you don't have a man but in my opinion not a single mother. I am a firm believer of giving credit where credit is due because the idea of a single mom is that the guy ran off or shirked his responsibilities in some way and left u to mother alone. Something to think about.....

in my opinion, if you're up all night by yourself with you're kid. if you have to wake your kid up and get them ready for the day by yourself. if you have to carry groceries in one hand and your kid in the other. you're a single parent. the dad being involved doesn't mean you're not a single parent. it means he's a good dad. everyday life can become hectic when it's just one parent. :)

@latia0321, I'm the same my 13 year olds dad not involved and I have a five week old her dads here so now I don't feel right saying I'm a single mom he looks out for my daughter n he's here for his 😁 to say single now ppl will think I'm now stuck raising two alone I don't want to slight him so I think I'll refrain from saying single mom as much as I can lol

It does mean you're not a single parent lol (one parent is not doing it all by themselves ALL the time ) it means your child has two parents that are there and provide for the kid who happens to live with one of the two of you, when dad has baby for the weekend or summer or school breaks or a week at a time he will have to do the same thing as you how would you feel about him calling himself a single dad??? If logistically it was possible for you guys to flip flop back in for so dad can do what you do one week and vice versa then there would be no room for you to say single parent the biggest difference is baby lives with you and that's probably in the best interest of the child so they aren't back n forth right? You guys are doing what you feel is best for kids but if he's involved in all major decisions and there for everything how do you feel right saying you're a single mom? There is a negative connotation to Single Mom and the general consensus is its a woman doing it all by herself but dad is apart of it sooo it kinda makes him look bad if I was a dad doing everything plus more and the only thing is my baby don't live with me and his or her mom hollering she a single mom because she carries groceries in at night and gets baby ready for school something she would do even if dad were in the household let's be real(not the grocery part) I would feel disrespected as a father. Just my opinion. On the surface I get you but on a deeper level I don't agree if dad really truly play his part mom shouldn't be on the Single Mom campaign she should just be on the Good mom bandwagon lol . @macieka h

I just don't agree. I feel like a child(ren) need two parents at home. especially when you have more than one kid everyday life gets tough when it's just one person. even if the other person does pay child support it doesn't make the physical demands of everyday life any easier. whether it's mom or dad doing it. below I'm attaching some information from the american psychological association to better explain my views.

I agree with kids needing two parents in the home it is much better than coparenting outside the home definitely. We are on the same page with them needing two in the home and I have taken several psychology courses which do indicate it is better for children to have two parents. What I'm speaking on is just the way women assert themselves as single parents but the dads are doing all that and more for the kids I have a friend who has his kids a few days a week takes them to school pays child support, never misses events and doc appointments so basically 50/50 and the mom still complains and hollers she's a single parent negating the fact that dad does just as much as her and experiences the same everyday things as her to me that's not a fair term for some to use when the only major diff is the mom and dad are not in the same home which would definitely be better but when the custody and responsibilities are shared then you're not a single mom based on how the term is used these days. @macieka thanks for the info but I don't think the links are showing

that's understandable. and I don't think people should use the term "single parent" in a negative way. it just means one parent runs the house hold instead of two. kudos to your friend though I really think that's awesome. you don't see that everyday. :)
