I just had a doctors appointment and got a prescription to get a breast pump. But I don't know where to fill a prescription for a breast pump. I have two insurances. Blue cross and blue shield, and United Health Care. I know United Heath Care pays for one 100%. But my OBGYN has a boutique that sells them but they said they can't fill the prescription. Has anyone else gone through this and know what to do? I'm lost.
@tracynangel, it's pretty obvious! I once got a bill from blue cross for blood work. It was a mistake and we fixed it since it was covered under my other insurance. But they wanted two THOUSAND dollars for a BLOOD TEST. Seriously not making that up. It gave me a stroke lol! Almost. But seriously...just because you can milk insurance doesn't mean you should! We probably would all have amazing cheap insurance if the medical field didn't fraud against these companies. They're seriously over paid and are making millionaires out of these hospital officials. I know this because I actually know a family who owns a local hospital! It's lunacy.
I know! Like one blood test was a few hundred I mean really?! I'm pretty sure you add stuff in there just to milk the insurance!
@tracynangel, no kidding! I'm high risk...I've had literally dozens of ultrasounds, blood tests, two hospital visits (one was over night) more tests than the normal person needs lol! I would have a freaking house by now with the kind of cash I'm sure they're charging my insurance. I hate that hospitals and doctors over charge and bleed insurance people dry.
Oh and my kindergarten class is studying birds this year, and we're now focusing on raptors and let me tell you, penguins and raptors are the most fascinating parents ever! I saw your owl cover photo! I've been keeping the Cornell University barn owl live cam on in the classroom and my kids love it!
I know! I think my bills would've gone over $20,000 by now. My gallbladder surgery was like $40,000!
@britthardy, We called them and that's all they said. I guess it's ok! We got one. We went through a lot of channels to look into getting a breast pump...only place we found that would do it was target. I guess I could have gotten it online but you can't beat having it in hand the same day! @tracynangel Im finding that out! They cover a lot but the best part is they run both my insurances and what one won't pay 100% the other takes the rest lol it's a good set up for us. No way we can afford medical bills and all this baby stuff!
United is actually a really great insurance to have! My husband is part of a union and benefits are always best with unions, and United has covered all my ultrasounds and doctor appointments which most insurance companies don't!
wow really I am not the policy holder I am on my dad's insurance still and they sent me one for free that is crazy!! @catehughes
@britthardy, turns out blue cross won't cover one because I'm a dependent not the policy holder or the spouse of the policy holder. I could only get one through United. I can't believe I yelled at my husband for getting United healthcare back in February. I was certain it would be crappy insurance because it was so dang cheap. Turns out they covered my breast pump when blue cross wouldn't, it's covered medical bills that blue cross sent us, and over all I haven't seen a single bill since I got it! Before i got married I had blue cross and triCare Prime from my parents and I still ended up being billed for things "out of network" now, not one issue! Being pregnant is hard when you're worried about buying baby stuff!! Think about when you also have medical bills!! I'm lucky to have it situated before it got too bad.
@tracynangel, for some reason they wouldn't give me the choice at target. I'm fine with the one I got. I just needed one!
I got mines through my insurance blue cross and they sent it out already 100% covered I just called and they sent it!!!! @catehughes
@steph11, I've heard pumping can induce labor. I also hear that we shouldn't pump before the baby...and then ofc I've heard it's a smart idea to pump and store some (freezing saves it up to 8 months?) but to be honest I don't have a clue! I might wait a few more days to actually try it out since I'm only 36 & 4 just in case it will jump start labor. My doctor already seems to think we might deliver in the next week.
it's super easy to use I used mine for the first time today trying to induce labor it kinda helped but I thought it was easy after you read the book it's easy
@steph11, @tracynangel yup! Just got mine today! No issues getting it. Hope it's not hard to use. This is my first baby so my first time using this thing...lol. I'm just glad I got something! My husband and I are on a tight budget and I was afraid we might not be able to afford one at all! Saved us almost 200$! Gotta love insurance.
I have united and got mine through target the medela double breasted one
@steph11, thank you so much for mentioning Target! I called my local target and they said they could fill the prescription today! Woohoo!
just call the number on your card they are super helpful. there are a few websites you can do it through. I got mine super quick a month ago and I used it for the 1st time today and I loved it I thought it worked well I got the Medela style something. there are like 5 to pick from
@steph11, I figured there had to be a website or something to call and get one! Sounds like I'll be getting one soon. I'm 25 days until my due date
Yeah I hear ya! good luck I'm from a small town so I can only order from target. when I found out I was pregnant my hr gave me all kinds of info about what insurance covers and will do
you can do it through target too but the people at my target looked at me like I had no head and told me I'd have to go to Albany which is 2 hours away because they've done one before I live in a small area
I got mine threw united Healthcare you have to wait 30days before your due date but you can order it online I did mine through edgepark.com I ordered on a Thursday and got it that Saturday and you don't need the script they'll call the office for you
@phasion, we're gonna call them today and see what they want us to do.
@lfurst I'm about 25 days to my due date. So that's no problem! I'll check out the website and see what all I'd have to do. But also going to call them to get any idea of where locally I could get it. One way or another I'll l find a breast pump! 😋
@tracynangel, yup lol
