So for the first time in nearly two years of nursing, I was asked to move and cover myself by a lifeguard at my local ymca while nursing my son sitting on the side of the pool. I kindly said the law says you can't ask me to move or cover. She looked a little embarrassed and said oh we can't? She then walked away.
On the way out, I asked for a manager and was told the executive director was manning the grill. I found him, introduced myself, and nicely asked of he could retrain his lifeguards on breastfeeding laws since I was asked to move and cover.
He apologized, said his wife was almost at a year of nursing and that he told the lifeguard that apparently found him to tell him what I'd said that she was absolutely not allowed to ask me to move or cover. He was very nice and I'm glad it ended the way it did. Hopefully no other mom is asked to cover at that location because not every breastfeeding mom knows the laws that protect her and her baby.

I had the law pulled up on my phone ready to fight if I had to. But he was so nice, he even applauded when I told him my son was almost 2 after he said his wife's goal was a year...lol. I think the fact his wife nursed helped a ton.

so I just nurse with nothing over baby. just him on the boob? just curious bc I hate having a blanket over him he gets hot

@alicia3_21, You have the right in almost every state to breastfeed with or without a cover. This is my state law.
383.015 Breastfeeding.—The breastfeeding of a baby is an important and basic act of nurture which must be encouraged in the interests of maternal and child health and family values, and in furtherance of this goal:
(1) A mother may breastfeed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether the nipple of the mother’s breast is uncovered during or incidental to the breastfeeding.
The high in my Florida city today was 96°. He's also almost two. There is no way he was going to let me cover him. You should nurse in whatever way makes you comfortable.
