question for breast feeding mamas: ok so baby fed from right breast for abt 20 mins, I offered her the other breast and she fed for anothee 11 mins so I pumped this breast for 9 mins (20 mins each side) and got 1oz of milk. is it ok to refrigerate the 1 oz I got and try and pump another oz at her next feeding in 3 hrs and add it together to make 2oz or should I not mix them because they're from two diff feedings? Sorry if this is confusing, I need help lol

I did. I think so. bc people freeze breast milk. and I didn't get 5-6 oz pumped one time and that is how much they contain. but I would double check with another mother like I would mix them as long as it was within the same couple days @helpedbytmh

@helpedbytmh, I have read you are not supposed to mix from different pumping sessions. But google it, I have before and there are tons of articles that explain it all to you and why you shouldn't

It's more than okay to add to the same breast milk for up to 24 hours. After 24 hours you'll want to start a new batch

from lactation consultation-

Yes, certainly. If you're doing a lot of pumping, try to mix batches pumped around the same time. The most common scenario is pumping on Tuesday and adding it to milk that you pumped on Monday. If the milk is already frozen, be sure that you cool the milk before adding it to what's already pumped.

In other words, if you have 1 ounce pumped, cool it and add only that ounce to the frozen supply. Only add cold milk to cold milk or cold milk to frozen milk. Because you never want to waste breast milk, you might consider freezing it in relatively small amounts. This way, if your baby doesn't take it all, you won't be throwing it out. @helpedbytmh
