I'm a little upset at my doctors office right now! Not all of you will agree with this post [I had to hear all kinds of arguments in my family] which is OK but please no negativity, I'll just block you lol.

So hubby and I had decided we did not want to do the blood test that screens for down syndrome or other genetic disorders. Our doctors office started offering it to us 3 visits ago and we politely decline each time. We feel that even if there is an issue they can't really do anything about it until birth anyway and it would not change how much we love and want our daughter so we don't see the point in knowing now. We do allow ultrasounds and other tests like protein checks and if something were to come back abnormal we would allow more testing. But since everything has been 100% perfect it is our preferred not to.
Well we went back for another appointment today. We have already had to sign papers so it's on file that we decline that test. We were getting ready to leave our appointment and the OBGYN said we had a blood test that we needed to do. She said it was to check my blood levels. So we went and I did the test. Only to find out that it wasn't and it was the genetic screening blood test they did! And people seem to think this is no big deal but I feel lied too. I specifically said I was not OK and did not give consent for this test and I feel like my doctor totally ignored our wish and did it anyway!
So angry.

I would be livid, if they can't honor/respect that one test this early on, then you may want a new doc who's more supportive. So sorry mama you went through that.

I found out because we have to go to a separate lab to get the blood done they don't do it in office. So I was making small talk with the lady drawing my blood and asked her what it checked for and she was the one who told me. I didn't yell at her because it'd not her fault she just follows the doctors instructions. @anqiee323 I'm calling my doctors back to complain tho

Thank you! some of my family was trying to make me feel like this was a stupid thing to be upset over. But it's our baby ya kno! and I have lots of more important requests than just this test and if my doctor can't even handle this how do I trust her with bigger issues! I have no more appointments scheduled with her and hubby and I are definitely finding a new doctor. @dessie0621 @cjw1095 @mrskuz

You have every right to be upset. I had this conversation with someone recently. I chose to have the test because I'm high risk and my age. Also because it was only $25. I'm torn whether or not I am going back to work after this baby so I wanted to know early what to be prepared for. But one point I made in my conversation was it really doesn't matter what the outcome would be it's still my daughter and she'll be loved just the same.

Thts wrong my doc offered it to me and I was like either way it goes I'm gonna love my baby so I will opt out and he was like ok and It was never bought up again ... They were wrong for tht u need to contact the director of the hospital for starters and go from there

Yeah can't you sue them for that, you signed a thing saying you didn't want it, they shouldn't have done it

I'm not sure. I'm gonna call and talk to the people above my doctor. I'm not sure that I would sue but I definitely think legally I probably could. I mean the entire point of the paperwork was to have proof I said no I think

They definitely should have been honest with you but they automatically do the one blood test for they screening unfortunately. What they are asking is for further testing but there is no way in hell the lady should have lied to you that's absolutely ridiculous
