They do right before you hold them then a little while later they take them and give them a bath.

@ftm15, yea because I only remember them cleaning my son off while he was on my chest and then another mom on here posted a picture of the baby getting a bath, and I didn't know they did that.

Yeah I think they do it when they take them back. With mine he was having breathing troubles in the beginning so they wheeled him off after putting him on my chest for barely a minute and did tests and watched him and gave him a bath.

Just depends what you ask for. I got skin to skin immediate. No cleaning for an hour then when the nurses weighed him (in my room he never left the room) she wiped him off. And asked If I wanted them to give him a bath I said no. And I gave him his first bath at home
