Whilst I'm lying here in the bath in midday I thought I would share my experience of a stretch and sweep incase and of you get to the point I'm at:
I was offered one at my 40 week appointment. The midwife will explain what she is going to do. You don't have to have one its completely your choice. however up here they don't induce until 40+12.
Midwife lubed her fingers and put them inside to see how many fingers she can fit through your cervix, the amount of fingers equals the amount your cervix is dilated, they will also see what position your cervix is in (whether it has moved round yet) they will also swoosh around the sack to see if they can stimulate the hormone that gets your labour started.
Overall I would say it is a little uncomfortable but doesn't hurt at all. Once it's done you may get a few period aches but I got them majorly the day after, so bad I couldn't really walk....however I put that down to too much walking and ball bouncing straight after! after my second one I rested and felt fine after but it probably is different for each person.
They wernt very successful for me however oi did start loosing my mucus plug the day after so it did something!! That's also different for every person!
Any questions I'm happy to help 😀
