***Just got the call from the Dr that based on newborn screening my baby has Sickle Cell Anemia (her dad and I have the trait). I cried and will probably cry some more. I was prepared for this possibility I am just scared I won't be able to handle it because I was never a sick person neither is my oldest child (diff dad). I know it's not the end of the world but based on the counseling we had about it prior to birth I know there will be things she won't be able to do and my other daughter is healthy enough to do everything. I hate that it's because of me there will be restrictions on her. I hate that there may come a time when I have to tell her she can't do something she wants to go because I've never told my other child she can't do something even if she wasn't so good at it. I hate that me n her dad are in such a weird place I can't even bring myself to cry to him and he surely won't come to me if he's hurt about it which I know he is. I hate that now I will probably be up watching her all night and I've been pretty chill since getting home letting her sleep longer between feelings etc. I hate that I even answered the phone today... 😢

She will be able to do whatever she want to do. My fiance niece and nephew has sickle cell and they are doing good. Yeah it's a lot of doctor appointments and stuff but other than that they are fine. Don't over think it. Think positive about the situation. I have a neighbor who is 30+ years old and they told her she wouldn't make it that age. She have had a hip replacement and they told her that wouldn't last her no more than 10 years but she is beating the odds. Everything will be okay 🙏🙏

It's a scary thought but it'll be ok. My little sister has sickle cell and you all learn to adapt. it's not that hard I promise :) she's 9 now and an amazing girl. And with all the medicine and treatment available she is without exaggeration in the hospital 75% less often. it's a beautiful thing. Just take it one day at a time

I just saw this post & Im sorry to hear that. I was born with the trait too. It was something I didnt even ask my child's father if he had. But on a positive side I have a friend who was born with the full blown disease & although she had complications as a kid she was able to lead a normal life thru her late teen to adult years. So only God has control over that. So only speak positive things into existence & he will take care of the rest.
