how do you motivate someone to help? he was raised totally different than me (were both 19). he always had his mom clean up after him as a kid, but then even his mom stopped caring about cleaning and they became hoarders. now my boyfriend won't pick up after himself. he'll eat something and just throw the bottle or wrapper on the floor or leave his plate where ever he wants. he won't wash dishes, take out the trash, help me unpack or rearrange rooms or even watch our 16 month old so I can pick up after them and cook and clean and stuff. im getting irritated. we've lived together for 2 years, been together almost 4. you would think it would be a little different, but I need help on how I can motivate him to help me... like maybe make him feel guilty.... yes, he works but it's not a hard job (he's a retail cashier). I need input :(

My husband was the same, his mom always did everything for him and he was a slob. Yes I'll wash dishes and clean the house but I ain't picking up something you could've done yourself because he wants to be lazy. I constantly complained and told him I'm only cleaning after myself and my son. After awhile he started putting stuff where it goes. if he wants to be lazy, then you show him so can you lol.

I just stopped caring for a week and then he asked why I haven't done anything I was like ummm I clean this house all the time you leave your shit every where and I'm not doing it anymore . Then he got the picture and now he helps me clean cause he knows lol . I hate having to clean the house top to bottom to have to go behind my husband and kids all day long picking up after them . I mean when do I get to sit down

I don't have this problem with my boyfriend, but my mother does and she constantly has to ask my father to pick up and help, and some days are better than others for her, some times he helps some times he doesn't, she doesn't really boss him around she just calmly asks if he could help because it would mean a lot to her and make things easier.

It doesnt work for everyone... but when he leaves his mess dont clean after him. Leave the dirty dishes and dont wash his clothes. Once theres no clean clothes to wear or clean plates to eat from Im sure he will start cleaning. Its easier said than done cuz u want a clean house etc. I did that with my ex. I didnt clean anything and it pissed him off so he started clean after himself.

@awelden, we have random walk throughs at our apartment to make sure we're keeping it clean and tidy so that won't work... my house after one day of me not cleaning looks so disgusting.... @kay80 he doesn't care if his clothes are dirty and he'll eat right out of the pan. he's like the laziest person I know...

Wow sounds like my ex . I remember when I would have wash our sheets like every day because on my side it was white and his side was black because he barely took a shower . So disgusting. @emilyyy96___
