My baby was put under ultra-violet lights for 12 hours at the hospital. Lots of sun, make sure you feed baby every 2 hours so he can poop, pooping helps a lot as far as I was told.
formula is fine too. hydration helps get the bilirubin out. the bilirubin comes out in poop it looks almost seedy. if baby has those seedy poops you are doing it right
but if your wee one doesn't seem to get better don't hesitate to go back to the doctor. bilirubin can get bad fast, expecially if it's due to a resolving cephalohematoma from natural birth
my baby's levels just went down a week ago and he's 4 weeks. the light never worked. they told me breast milk, keeping him wrapped up in blankets, and hydration was key.
My doctor told me too wake my baby up and get her moving and feed her every two hours during the day... like @rlcorreia123 said it comes out when they poop. so as long as your little one is eating gaining weight and pooping and peeing you should be ok. unless you notice the color not getting better or just getting worse. do you use vitamin d supplement to?
no , but I think his formula is helping. I stay nervous because he's light skin and I'm like trying to figure out if it's him or the jaundice @mdomke22
lol his doctor appointment is tomorrow and I'm just a little nervous .. but hopefully his jaundice got better. I think it's cause he was born early too @mdomke22
Yea I Def think that plays a factor too my daughter was two weeks early. and I was three weeks early.. I guess I had jaundice too. so I really believe that theory
i dont think pediatricians recommend di vo sol or any vitamin d supplement if a baby is formula fed. formula already has vitamin d in it. breastmilk does not.
a vitamin d supplement is given typically to mothers that breastfeed. if you breast feed, and your baby has jaundice, and your ped. hasn't sent a prescription for vitamin d you should probably ask them why
