Do kids have to have God Parents? I don't have any God Parents for my girls, but I've heard a lot of talk about it…

Ahh, I was going to get my oldest Christened. That's what her sperm donor wanted, but he's not even part of her life. So I decided not to @firefly

I would suggest discussing your concerns and make sure anyone you're thinking of understand the role of a godparent. It's not about purchases and pictures. It's guidance and love. If they understand the meaning and everyone is one the same page I say go for it. Your baby can still be Christened without godparents. Well at least in my church they could.

This is my first child, I am doing it becuase I believe children should be christened. But the whole if you pass away the god parents get the children is not legal unless you put that in your will. Which I plan on doing for my sister, also I want my sister to be her spiritual guide and mentor. That's way she is going to be my daughters godmother.

I grew up Christian as well. Still consider myself to be Christian... With my 1st 2 I thought I had to. I chose people I felt would be a great fit. But in my experience the god parents chosen were great the first couple years and then in my opinion forgot about the child. I don't think a lot of people understand the true meaning of being a god parent. I think people lately like the title and do it for show... (All my opinion and experience)

Okay. I thought it may've been a religious thing, but wasn't sure. I guess it's just certain religions, though? I grew up in a Christian household, and went to church my whole life. My daughter does two my bestfriend/sister wants to be my daughter God mom in case of emergency but I chose to have two because she is still young and I wanted a couple i trusted that was involved in church as well so my aunt and uncle our her God parent and my bestfriend still has the tittle but if my and my bf dies she would first go to my aunt if they aren't here my bestfriend would be responsible for her
