This may sound dumb BUT what does it mean to be in labor exactly? I thought it means you're about to have baby. but then I see under certain circumstances they will send you home even if you are In labor so I'm confused?

Most hospitals will only admit you if your contractions are 5 minutes apart or less or your progressing.

You can be having consistent contractions and not be in active labor. Your cervix has to be dilating with the contractions in order to be considered active labor. Hope that helps 😄
