I never wanted to eat during labor but it sucks to not be able to drink either. I was in labor for 29 hours with my oldest and only got ice chips.

That make sense , I just won't eat

they worry about vomiting and aspiration in the event of a c-section.

I think its stupid to starve a woman in labor but most hospitals won't allow you to eat.

@brandi_22, food can effect anesthesia only if they don't know what you had. If try thought you had an empty stomach and it was full they'd administer the wrong dose.

It stupid to not eat during labor. Food is fuel and energy and that's kinda what you need to get through labor and birth. I was with my midwife and I ate pizza and bread sticks and whatever I wanted an I was fine. It helped me get through over 36 hours of rough labor. And gave me energy to push for 2.5 hours. Pregnant/labor/delivery not eatin for 36+ hours how's that smart?
