Do you recommend pumping before or after nursing?

@kaymariah, keep pumping you're fine even if you only get an extra oz that's an oz you didn't have before

You can keep trying but at this point your supply is still tryin to even out and it's not suggested to pump before 8 weeks that's when your supply is more even. You can keep trying I just mean don't kill yourself trying and don't get upset if you can't make enough to pump. Normal is .5 oz combined after nursing. And breastmilk is far sweeter then formula I've never heard of a baby wanting formula over breastmilk. Think like this, some moms have to try a ton of different formula brands before finding one their baby likes but baby's always take breastmilk with no issue. So it's highly highly unlikely your little one will want formula.

so I should stop trying to pump milk for him? he's only 2 weeks old and it's been only breast milk I wasn't ready to give him formula yet...what if he doesn't want to breastfeed anymore after having the formula? ugh I hate this!!!!!!! @californiahaley

@kaymariah, sometimes when you nurse and pump you just don't make enough to do both. It's very common to not get a letdown while pumping or just not have milk left to pump. If you already have a good supply going for baby I wouldn't suggest doing anything that could result in an over supply it's not fun. I understand not wanting to give formula but if it's only for a day that might be better then stressing yourself out to try to pump. A friend of mine had only enough milk to give her baby. She tried countless hours of pumping everyday just to make a bed time bottle but just didn't have it in her. She's pump after every feeding and barely get 2 oz by the end of the day. Some times you just don't have enough so try not to beat yourself up about that.

@kksykes1616, nipple stimulation while pregnant cN cause you to go into labor and may not result in any milk production. I had no colostrum or milk until my son was born no leaking ect. So pumping wouldn't have resulted in and milk.

After you dont want to take out what baby might eat. You pump till you don't see anymore come out. If you're trying to up supply you pump for a max of 5 minutes after the milk has stopped.
