You'll know when your contractions start, as you will feel slight to moderate pain sporadically, then frequent more painful contractions. Only your doctor or nurse can tell you dilated you are. You can be and not even know it. I believe hospitals say come in when your contractions are 2 to 3 mins apart, unless your water breaks, then come in immediately. Not everyone's water breaks at home. Sometimes your water breaks when you're ready admitted.

Some people don't feel anything at all, even at 8 or 9 months lol my first baby was born via c-section at 39 weeks due to medical reasons and I never once felt a contraction or even BH contractions... if I were to have them now it would be new to me lol I'm 31 weeks 2 days and I just know this pregnancy has been painful throughout my entire pregnancy.
