"Fun" fact for the day:
SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
noun
the death of a seemingly healthy baby in its sleep, due to an apparent spontaneous cessation of breathing
This is not suffocation, asphyxiation, blunt force trauma, a crushed or broken neck, choking, or strangulation. SIDS is an *unknown* cause of death where nothing wrong can be found with the infant other than the sudden cessation of breathing (as in, they have no clue what causes breathing to stop, period). Please god, don't let anyone frighten or bully you in to any thing with "oh x causes SIDS!" No one knows what causes SIDS. Situation x, y, or z may result in any of the aforementioned *known* causes of death if proper precautions are not taken, but co-sleeping, bed sharing, sleeping with or without a pacifier, crib bumper pads, tummy or back sleeping, etc do not cause SIDS. Follow your mommy instincts, listen to your pediatrician's advice (and, no, you don't have to follow it to the letter if it makes you uncomfortable and is reasonably safe to alter/ignore- be educated!- you hired them for professional advice not to dictate how to parent to you. If needed, you can even change doctors), and follow ALL safety guidelines laid out on toys, bedding, safe sleeping (yes there are even safe bed sharing guidelines, in fact most countries around the world still practice bed sharing) and the like. Be confident. Be safe. Do you, mommies. ☺😘💜
