I'm from NC and in my personal experience grand parents DONT have any rights to the child only the father. my ex husbands parents wanted to try for custody because he was no longer in my daughter life. she was 3 the judge denied them any visitation the law said the father was allowed to see her. but he was MIA. I went out of my way and in the kindness of my heart let them see her. that didnt last long, they lied to her. told her, her father was coming back. tired to turn her against me and begged he to come live with them.. needless to say they have NO CONTACT with my baby girl shes now 13years.. I hope that helped in some way... good luck

See, I don't want my unborn child around my mom or my fiance's parents. My fiance agreed to this. Now, "grandparents rights" is trying to be brought up. I feel like it's my decision. My mom has NEVER been there for me and hasnt actually been here for my unborn son. My fiance's parents were the same. They've both caused nothing but drama and stress since I've gotten pregnant. I'm the parent, I think I should have the say. I've read that unless they can prove we're unfit parents, separating/getting a divorce, they can't get rights. Also, it said something about "if the child has had a relationship with the child," but obviously not because he's not been born yet and she never had a relationship with me at all. I was practically raised by my dad even though they were together but no longer are. How would the court handle it with him being a newborn? Do you think they stand a chance? I'm from NC too!

the law is the law..it might have changed from when I went through this. im adopted and my mother was never there .. so I understand wanting that negativity and drama far away from you and your unborn child. he or she deserves the best and I cant imagine your going to be unfit or harm your him or her, sometimes ppl want to get to you dont let them...just in case dont give them no reason to say or bring that up in or out court. in my opinion it wont go that far. you are the mother and if the father of the child agrees with your decision I believe you both should be fine. you can call around or look online for lawyers for a free consultation and ask them. that's how I did it. I pray for you and your new family... im here if you wanna talk more ...
