Before my son was born I had total strangers tellin me I'm already a terrible mother because I didn't get rid of my "dangerous" pitbulls the day I found out I was pregnant. One my dogs are dangerous. Two they adore my son. And three people can fuck off. I think people say not to have cats because they can jump into cribs and whatnot. Just watch your cats some get jealous with not having all your attention. I know a couple that had to get rid of their cat because it jumped in the babies crib and layers on it's face and wouldn't move. The kids fine but basically the cat tried to suffocate the baby because it was used to getting all the attention and all of a sudden it wasn't anymore. Your cats might not give two fucks about the baby, and they might hate it. Just watch them for the first few months and don't leave them alone in the room with the baby. If they seem to not care then you will be fine to keep them an have them grow with the baby, if they act as if they don't like the baby and that doesn't change over time then I would find them a new home. But I've it time. I wouldn't just get rid of them because people say so. Your cats might love the little one

We got our cat when we were about 3 or 4 months in to help keep me company, our cats spoiled rotten and we already worked out a plan on how to keep him, for us we have decided to leave sometime when our little girl will be napping to play or give him one on one time, or one of takes him and the other take the baby for a little, so both get the proper attention, and we plan on introducing them slowly. My family wasn't happy about it, but you have to keep in mind nowadays people have cats and babies all the time, sometimes they're even best friends, and they also make thing to put over cribs to keep cats out, so there are many options for you. You aren't a bad parent because you want to keep your first baby, the furry ones. It's also something you may have to wait and see how they do, if it gets bad after the baby gets here, then maybe you should look into it, but don't just go straight for that. Plus, I've heard the dander being in the air can be good for baby's development against allergies when they get older, I don't know if that's true or not, but if it is, it's a plus!

@californiahaley back in the 1800s they used to use pit bills as nannies for babies, that's why I don't see a problem, plus all dogs can be dangerous, it's how they're treated and raised is how they'll end up acting. I bet seeing them with the baby is too cute!

Any dog can be mean, just like kids can be mean. Just like people dogs don't have "mean" or violent genetics. My Pittie babies love my little baby.

The old wives tale you're talking about isn't a tale. Cats will go and lick the milk off babies face and breathing will cause lack of oxygen to the baby and can cause suffocating. They don't mean to hurt the little one though. I have a cat and a dog, both of which I will be keeping. You just have to keep an eye on them, just like you would if someone else's child was around them and you didn't want them to overstimulate your animal.
