Yes, Lala. She copy/pasted info for me that chose to use a boy as example.
My son had a fear response when placed on the potty the first time but once he peed once he was okay
Newly, that's true. Some children are initially afraid and then overcome their fear very quickly. As a parent you are the best judge of what your child's limits are. These are very generalized guidelines of things to look for when considering the right time to potty train.
Lala, in my experience it's the same for girls. The only real difference I've noticed is that girls are typically ready sooner than boys are.
Yaya! I have a question. My daughter is 3 in October. She has most signs of being ready. Dry after night/naps. Asking to sit on the potty and does the routine, wipe flush wash hands but does not actually go when she sits, she has not been successful at going potty yet.. But wears diapers with underwear over them at her demand. She is in daycare and asks to go when she sees her friends use the potty. ANY suggestions? I have the next 5 days off and am committed to potty training if she is truly ready... and do u use reward charts?
Yaya, my 20 month old son has started showing interest, doesn't want to wear diapers, is waking up with a dry diaper 50%of the time, and signals when he's going to poop or pee. Is he too young? Ds watches ss4 and tries to emulate him and ss4 keeps telling him he needs to use the big boy potty.
Ds2 decided about a month ago he didn't want diapers anymore. I tried getting him to wear them at least at night but he didn't want to. I told him if he started waking up dry I'd let him sleep in just underwear. He woke up dry next morning and hasn't had any problems since with waking up dry or having accidents. Except he won't poop in the potty. He said he's scared. And he doesn't like praise or encouragement, or even acknowledgement, at all. How do I get him to poop in the potty?
So my son is just over two and he is pretty much accomplishing the first three signs. How do I get him to stop putting his toys in the potty and recognize what it's for?
He has a fear response only I'd say a fourth of the time, and has a pressure to preform. Should I just wait? Also he only goes to potty when we leave him naked on bottom. He doesn't recognize a difference between underwear and a diaper
My middle son trained the day after his 4th birthday. I know it's later than the average, but it still falls within the norm and he was trained in 2 days. My other 2 boys were trained at 3 and at 3 1/2. I personally don't stress about it and really do wait until they are ready.
Great info yaya!
I'm so hoping P is ready before this baby will be here but idk.
I had 2 in diapers for a while. It sucked, but now we are completely diaper free. YAY!
I'll list my dds signs I think she's ready
-she is potty trained to poop, only ever pooped in her diaper twice the last 3 months with diarrhoea and freaked out both times.
-if she's got no diaper on she wees on the potty with no accidents but the moment I put pants on she goes in them
-tells me no problem she needs the potty and can hold herself for the short period getting to it.
Ifoundthebread, it sounds like she's ready. I gave my boys a start date for no more diapers. We watched Elmo's potty training video and read potty books the week leading up to it. I explained the process and set up our goal and rewards. Once we started, we committed to it. We spent 3-5 days at home and there were no more diapers. I set up some new books in the bathroom and I reminded them every 30 minutes to sit and try for the first day or two.
I think I'll give it a start when my oh shifts change so he can help. It's after the first couple of days that's worrying me (I worry a lot ?) once she's got the gist in the house bottomless, do I continue with pants no underwear to start or with underwear? What do you do when you go out? I don't drive so we use buses or walk, do I take a potty out to use at the side of the path? ? I just feel overwhelmed at the idea of starting.
I make sure my boys are comfortable on the potty before we leave the house. We practice on the big potty without the potty seat so they know what to expect when we leave home. They make a foldable toilet seat insert that you can take with you to put on big toilets so your child doesn't feel like they are falling in. I also practice with neighborhood walks in underwear and pants first so my boys can get used to the feeling of underwear in public. It's a lot of prep work and building up in stages, but it's been a very successful method for me so far.
@caiticat I'm asking ML why my posts didn't transfer completely. Most of my posts are like this. It's pretty upsetting. The developers are looking into it. If it is gone, I will do my best to recreate it.
Hi, 👋🏻 I’m tapwater and I saved this from bb because I was worried it would be gone forever.
@yayacarrington, you’re welcome! It sounded like good advice and there’s so much noise out there around potty training.
@badwolfmomma15, no problem 🙂
