Okay I need answers.! If your period was a week late is there any way to tell if it was an early miscarriage if you tested negative.?

So I was on the Shot for a year. Stopped it in September. Didn't get my period back until end Dec. and no positive results yet. So I'm thinking about trying the pill to regulate first but Stopping it quickly to try again. But what do I know.? Any Suggestions.??? Please help.!!!
