I’ve made the decision to start the process of buying and moving out of my parents home. It’s not what I wanted to do since I wanted to keep saving but I feel it’s what best for me, even if I know it will upset my son and things will be SO much harder. With my income & the area I want to move in, I can only afford a condo. I am going to a few open houses this weekend. Is there anything I should be asking? I know I should ask things like HOA fee…I do have a realtor.

Congrats! How exciting! It will be best for everyone in the long run even if it’s hard in the beginning.

I’d also ask about any history with mold or water damage in the unit.

I am so excited for you!!!! It's healthier for you too, the dynamics at your parents are all off. <3 Agree about roof, ac, water heater.

I really think it’ll help with my relationship with my parents. My brother moved out a few years ago and their relationship has definitely improved. I really can’t help but be really nervous about the whole thing though. I am scared I’ll make a big mistake somehow and have to move back home. I am good with money but what if something happens and I can’t do this on my own?! The whole parenting completely solo thing is daunting.

Our thing is how old the roofing and ac unit is. Those are pricey. We’re trying to find a house to buy too.
Edit: to add in check if there’s tree roots. We just had our under ground pipes redone. 11k lmao. Also HOME INSPECTION! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING WITHOUT ONE.

My kid is not good with new transitions at all. This will be extremely hard on him. But I’ve always told him that we never were going to stay at my parents basement forever. I do think that once he experiences having his OWN space he will be more accepting.
