Thank you all so much for your prayers and keeping us in your thoughts. My baby boys surgery went well, but we have a long road ahead of us. This is quite a read so thank you if you stay to the end x

Our beautiful baby boy has been diagnosed with a condition called hydrocephalus. It is a build up of fluid on the brain. We all have fluid in our brain, and we all have ventricles that help drain the excess fluid back into our blood stream. Baby boys ventricle is blocked, which caused the fluid to build up and enlarge his head. The shunt goes through his brain and into his stomach, it will work as the ventricle that is blocked to drain the excess fluid back into his blood stream. There are high risks of this shunt becoming blocked itself, or causing infection which means baby boy is likely to need this surgery again more then once through out his life to have the shunt removed, wait 10 days and then a new one placed in again. Baby boy will have this condition for the rest of his life, there are risks of the shunt draining too much fluid from his brain, or not enough fluid which would cause a build up of pressure on his brain. Now the shunt is in; the neurosurgeons will be able to magnetically turn down the settings externally to make sure it always drains the correct amount of fluid. We have to be aware of all magnetic fields that baby boy will come into contact with through out his life as they can interfere with the shunts settings. We have to always look out for symptoms of the shunt possibly being blocked or infected, it is detrimental to my sweet boy as if not detected fast enough he could die. My sweet baby boy now has his own care team of nurses appointed to his care for the next 16-18 years of his life. With them they will help guide me and my partner into caring for our sweet boy. Hydrocephalus not only causes build up of fluid on the brain, but also brain damage. The extent of brain damage it can causes varies from child to child, we will not know the extent for our baby boy until he gets bigger in time. We had concerns about our baby boy prior to this hydrocephalus diagnosis regarding development and other things. I will make a separate post as again it is a LONG read but explains in detail what we are dealing with and I would love to have some advice or if anyone has any experience x
