It’s happening. The battle of social media & trying to maintain my child’s innocence. My kid likes to go on YouTube to watch other people play video games or listen to music. He’s never really been the type to like movies or tv shows. So I put on age restrictions on YT. Well it’s obviously not very good because I find that he goes on YouTube shorts which is where people upload tiktoks, which I have never downloaded, and earlier I heard a video about a couple and how often they have sex. I snatched it away quick. I would just delete the app entirely but the problem is I like to be on YouTube for myself. I am not looking forward to this battle getting more difficult as he gets older 🥴
We don't have YouTube anymore. My husband took them to my mom's yesterday and he was like I don't miss it one bit. They have it at school on their Chromebooks and the teachers allow them on it.
Youtube kids is way more safe. You can choose age ranges through like 12/13. It may not allow him access to gaming streams though bc those usually aren’t meant for younger kids to watch either due to the nature of the games themselves.
This is why YouTube is a hard no for the kids in my house. Its on my phone but not on their iPads so they have zero access. There’s too much adult content on there!!
@mybabybear, i was the same so they just use my old iPad bc I never use it. I’d rather just grab my phone. But I’d definitely look into maybe a little upgrade for you & then giving him your one you have now & putting all the restrictions you can on it.
@ekko, oh yeah! It’s crazy. My sons says his friends watch things on there too & im like well you’re not 😂 I don’t think some parents realize the amount of things that slip through the cracks on there with video violations & things. My friends little sister watches it every now & then & she says that sometimes in the middle of what would be a kids video, they’re be inappropriate clips or language. People are gross!
It’s hard. I discovered the chats on Robolox and how dirty people talk in them. Mine can’t play it. Basically any game with a chat is a no in this house now. YouTube isn’t allowed either.
I only let my son watch YouTube Kids and it’s set to preschool age. I tried it with my daughter and set it to ages 5-8 but she couldn’t find anything she liked so I changed it to 9-11. Even then it doesn’t show her favorite YouTube families that she likes so she usually watches the regular YouTube but I told her she’s not allowed to click on TikToks. It’s annoying that TikTok is linked to YouTube now. So difficult to manage.
