I am livid right now…
My 10 year old baby sister spent the night last night. I went to do her hair this morning to find a significant chunk of the front of her hair was way shorter than the rest. It turns out my 22 year old step sister decided she had a mat that was too big so she just cut it, no one said a word and now she’s on her way back to WA state.
First of all, that’s bi racial curly hair. It tangles very easily. Hers mats up almost daily because she takes her hair down and doesn’t keep
it in her protective style. but my father combs her hair and puts it up every morning so I highly doubt that she had a mat that big!
Second, my father was in the house and you didn’t stop and think to consult with your stepfather and their dad?! You didn’t think, let me text my stepsister and ask which of these products is a detangler because I don’t know these brands, labels? No, you cut her hair and hide it with a high bun instead
Culturally speaking, we don’t cut our girls hair other than a small trim a couple times a year until they’re about 12. It grows different, it needs more growing time due to the curl pattern, all of that. Besides that, you don’t disrespect the parent by cutting hair without permission.
We got her an appointment to get box braids while that chunk grows back over the next 6 months or so. My stepsister has some serious explaining to our father on this one.
