TV in kids' bedrooms: rules or no?
Do your kids have a TV in their bedroom?
If so, what are the rules for it?
And if not, what helped you decide it wasn’t something you wanted in their rooms?

Yes my kids have a tv. My rules are just on school night you are to be in bed at 8 and sleeping no later then 9 or the tv will be getting shut off.

No there’s a TV in my guest room that he watches. He’ll stay up all night if given a screen, it keeps him awake. That’s the reason I decided against putting it in his bedroom. I think it depends on age for sure.

Yes. They can watch it whenever. But they’re also teenagers so if they chose to stay up all night they can suffer the consequences the next day. But the screen time on their phones turns on at 8 pm on school nights.

There’s a smart tv , no cable . I monitor what they watch and when. They know if they don’t follow the rules then I take the tv out of their room and it’s worked so far . They’re in school all day so I let them watch only after homework is done and they finish dinner and it’s worked all this time . My kids are also 6&7 they’re pretty young .

Meaning there’s Netflix , Hulu , Disney plus and YouTube on the tv. They cannot watch whatever they want because it’s on kids mode too

How do you have kids mode on on your smart tv? Especially on YouTube? I have been trying to figure that out. I have Roku tv

so there’s kids YouTube ! And they already know what’s allowed so my older son would come to me if he felt something wasn’t good ! Netflix I have a special profile just for them so they click on that one ! I truy to make profiles just for them to use . So I know they’re using theirs and it’s kid friendly

No. They’re still little, though. I’m open to it once they’re older (high school) and can use it responsibly. I think it’s very unnecessary for younger kids.

Yeah all the rooms have a TV. Surprisingly my teen only watches it on the weekends sometimes or when a Netflix series comes she likes. She doesn't really like watching TV much. My 5 year old only watches DVDs on hers.

Yes , I take the remote away at night and just let them watch one movie or show . They’re usually asleep a few mins into it . Then I shut it off . They’re asleep by 8 pm .

No. Our only tv is in our living room. We decided at their ages right now, they can survive without one & it’s not a necessity.
We don’t even have one in our bedroom. But once they’re much older, if they’d like one, I’m sure we’ll let them.

Yes. School nights tvs are off at 9 for bed. Weekends and summer they can stay on all night.

No. We do tv at night at as family then koda reads.
Just is an easy temptation to stay up later or sneak extra screen time.

No. But neither one is old enough in my opinion and they wouldn’t go to sleep at a decent time if I left it up to them. 🥴

No, insomnia runs rampant in my family. We have TVs in shared spaces but no TVs in bedrooms and it’ll stay that way when the kids are older.

Yes. I have a DVD player and a Wii U system in her room. She needs help turning it on and setting it up tho. I don’t see a issue with it. Especially when I’m cleaning the house I send her to her room with a movie or whatever.
Sistersmainpiece·
no, but we aren’t big on tv. We can go weeks and months without watching tv. I was raised playing outside and with toys. We didn’t really watch tv so it’s not something I do now.
JenX·
TV with DVD player only, no cable, no wifi. And no TV before bed, we only read.

Yes, mine got one for Christmas last year. They can watch it whenever as long as there chores are done. (It will change to when homework is done also with school starting this week). They have Netflix in there that’s all. YouTube got deleted off because they couldn’t follow the rules with it.
They get a bedtime timer at bedtime and once it’s off it’s off for the night I usually take the remote out of the room at bedtime. Out my youngest will turn it back on if he can’t sleep.
But they never watch it unless it’s bedtime usually and the timer get set for a hour that’s it
Mine are 4 and 6

No. I never had a TV in my room as a kid. We only had 1 TV for our family. My kids would probably have it on all day and they already get too much screen time. They don’t fall asleep to the TV either. I don’t want everyone secluded in their rooms watching TV all the time.

Yes my kids have tvs in the room. The only one that doesn’t is the baby. They watch tv during independent time and some right before bed while I’m getting the other kids ready. The main tv is in the playroom which is playing educational stuff and world information. But bedtime is early and tv is limited in the rooms to the times I mentioned above.
