I use hotels.com all the time. Never had an issue

The only issue I’ve had was once the hotel computer system was down so we couldn’t check in until 11 pm, they gave us a dirty room (couldn’t tell what rooms were clean, there was literal shit in the bathroom still), and charged us for the items removed from the mini fridge from the previous night’s guest. Since we booked through a 3rd party site (can’t remember if it was hotels.com or bookings.com), the hotel wasn’t able to comp us anything to make up for their mistakes. Using the websites and getting good deals, those sites are great. But then on the other end, the hotel might be a jerk if there’s an issue with the reservation.
