As my daughter gets older it’s harder to parent with her dad. She’s curious about things and asking questions and I feel it’s important to be honest with her. He however wants me to lie or tell her she’s not old enough for that conversation. He’s mad she asked what sex was and I told her. Then when I asked if he’d like to be in charge of those types of conversations he said no. I assumed it was a because she’s a girl and it’s a dad thing but he’s like no it’s deeper then that she doesn’t need to know that right now. I just want her to have that open communication with me so that she knows she can always come to me. I don’t want her to have to sneak and learn. Was it to early to have the conversation with her? I know at that age I was sneaking and watching movies.

If she's asking, it definitely isn't too early. Kids need to know about sex and puberty stuff. I once read about a young girl whose parents had never talked to her about puberty and she got her period and was so distraught that she must have an std that she committed suicide. That's a horrible and rare situation, but kids need to know about body changes, hunan reproduction, etc and if she's asking, she's old enough for age appropriate information. He's wrong.

I couldn’t be open with my mom which lead me to learn for my older sister, tv, and friends. I never felt comfortable coming to her either. I just want her to know she can come to me and I will give her an answer and as she gets older I’ll go into more detail.

that's perfect. My mom wasn't comfortable talking about it and I learned some sex ed in high school, but mostly HBO after dark and a lot of confusion. :(

I was on HBO after dark too and things on showtime. At a young age because I loved to know things and if people wouldn’t tell me I’d try to find out.

Are you talking about your 9 year old daughter or your 5 year old daughter? Either way, I don't think a child should be lied to by their parents if they ask a direct question. I always answer any questions that my kids ask out of curiosity, with an age appropriate answer. My oldest son knows exactly how babies are made because he asked me so I told him. I don't think you did anything wrong.

9. And I told her it’s how babies are made. I didn’t go into detail but she knows it involves male and female parts. She was like eww but thanked me for explaining it to her.

I think you did the right things, you’re being open and making her comfortable to talk to you about anything even the uncomfortable things.

It’s great you are having healthy open talks with her!! The fact that she’s asking means she already knows something about it you know? And better to hear from you than other kids or the crazy internet. I had that talk with my son because he kept hearing about it at school awhile ago.

@kesh-kesh, we try out best to shelter their innocence for as long as we can, until it’s time but it happens. Being open and honest with communication is something that’s so important because like you said, we didn’t have that growing up with our parents. Just know the questions will get harder lol

I’m not ready for the harder ones lol. I feel like some of these conversations will be wine conversations 😂
