It was detected 4-6 weeks ago, but the key is they don't think it makes you sicker than regular omicron, it just has a different dna pattern and is sneakier to identify.
they've made it harder than it had to be and I really fault the CDC for that. They give people information that is really complicated like they're in the medical field because they want to seem transparent (and the people they are trying to please will never act sensibly about covid, that's a lost cause) and then everyone gets confused and makes a lot of bad decisions.

Ugh it’s awful. They have lifted the masks at the schools here also. Thankfully mine still wear theirs.

It's been here a month or so...I think it first showed up in Arkansas a couple weeks ago though
