When life kicks you when you least expect it: my dark day

depression has been kicking my ass lately. My birthday is in a few days and it’s the first without my mom. I have court coming up and sooo much else going on. So i went and bought myself a cake and i’m sitting on the couch eating it straight out the book. Drinking some water to wash it down. 😋 Yes I cut it, shut up.

Girl, you've had one hell of a time. You stick your face in that and motorboat it. I'll hold your hair back with one hand and fight anyone who says anything about it with the other. Rest and enjoy. <3 Birthdays can be extremely bittersweet. My dad got his terminal diagnosis on my 30th birthday and it was years before I truly enjoyed the day again.

My little sister reached out to me in a beautiful email and told me that even though a lot of people forget that it was my birthday, and when I picked up the phone I expected to hear a big huge happy birthday, but he told me he had lung cancer instead. She reminded me that I was one of my dad's favorite people in the world and that my birthday was a day he treasured and celebrated. That it wasn't a day to be sad because my dad was celebrating it.

I know your mom absolutely treasured you and your birthday was one of the most amazing days of her life. A day she never forgot no matter what she was doing. As a mom, you know that joy that is tattooed forever on your heart of the day your babies came into the world.
