So we’ve always just gotten joint-family gifts for our nieces and nephews to share… pretty much all the adults do this in the family and it’s always just worked. Well today I’m on the phone with my sister in law and she’s like “yeah well I wasn’t gonna say anything but we got you guys something real nice I know you’ll like it”
And I’m just like 🥴 obviously I am grateful and glad she thought of us but like noooo… cause now I have to get my ass out here LAST MINUTE sometime next week to find her and her husband something when we could’ve kept the tradition going of just getting the kids gifts…. Idk if it’s just me but I hate when people get me stuff because I always feel obligated to get them something and literally don’t know what to get them, I don’t know what they want/like. Any suggestions?

I don’t like when people get gifts when we have an understanding not to — but I also know they do it because they want to and they don’t expect anything back. I still feel obligated to get them something though. What do they like? Maybe a subscription to something? I’ve seen coffee from around the world subscriptions if they like coffee. They have wine or beer subscriptions, too. Those are fun because they get a gift for a few months. Or maybe a gift card to a restaurant they like and an offer to watch the kids for a date night?

I completely get it! Sometimes I find something that is absolutely perfect for someone at an amazing price and I truly don't expect anything in return.
If you can't find anything on short notice, tell them it's backordered and buy something in sale in a week.
