I was told by so many people not to even try to potty train my son because he is almost 3 and diagnosed autistic. They all said to wait until four. (None of them were doctors or therapists. Just people who thought they knew more about it than the doctors) well I’d like to say that Oliver just peed a little bit in the toilet for the first time yesterday. I’m so proud of him. We have been working so hard. So yes. I’m going to challenge him. I’m going to try and make life easier for him as early as I can.
My niece is moderate to severe autism and my sister has always appropriately challenged her. I went to a class given by Temple Grandin and she firmly believes that we have to take children on a case by case basis, because we often let children (neurotypical and otherwise) get away with behavior if they act out. She said always keep your child safe, but to not be afraid to give it a solid, as low stress as possible try. <3
