I know i kind of asked this the other day.. im going to my obgyn on wednesday to discuss birth control. I refuse to take the pills because of what it did to me last time i was on them so im considering an iud. Not sure which one, figured id discuss with my dr. But ive only heard horror stories about them getting placed and lots of complications. My best friend said she felt she was going to pass out for about 15 mins after but then no issues and she feels great. So i guess im looking for your own personal experiences so i can make an educated decision on which iud or other form to go woth (like the arm implant or whatever) just looking for testimonials. Please and thank you!

My sisters both had the copper iud for years until their husbands got vasectomies with no issues whatsoever. I take a daily low dose pill for my endometriosis with no problems but I understand if you had a bad reaction.

Thank you so much for responding. I will obviously discuss these things with my Dr but want to educate myself as much as I can to make it go smoother

especially while breastfeeding. I'm sure she will give me a great recommendation considering it's one of her specialties lol. Really didnt want to go on birth control because hubbs keeps talking about a vasectomy but it's so booked far out (June-Sept 2022) and he (like most men) hate condoms and trusts his pullout skills. I mean if I got pregnant it wouldnt bother me because I love pregnany and babies and feel I'm just meant to do this but my husband would be so pissed. So I'm taking matters in my own hands (or uterus lol) until he can get the snippy snippy

I considered that one but then saw it is not recommended if breastfeeding. I appreciate your response!

I got mirena after this baby. No issues with placement. It felt like a Pap smear. I did have issues with constant bleeding/spotting beyond the 6 month adjustment period so my ob had me come in for an ultrasound to make sure it was in the right place still. All looked fine so she prescribed a birth control pill which I took for a few months. Essentially this helped control the bleeding and spotting while my body had a few more months to adjust to the mirena. I’ve been off the pill for a few months now and all is much better.

The inserting of the iud hurt but 100% worth it. I do check my iud monthly to make sure it’s in place. It’s been 3.5 years. I have the hormonal one. I was gonna do the non hormonal one but my doctor said that one gives you heavy bleeding so I was like nope. I do even still get a period which is comforting to me but it’s incredibly light just a few spots for 4 days or so. I didn’t have any bad experiences—no heavy or constant bleeding and still had a light period every month even after initial insertion.

What did the pill do to you ? I’ve been on them for 10+ years . All of a sudden I got extreme boob pain . I got off them to see if that was the issue and the pain stopped .

I had terrible anxiety, mood swings, and worst of all it caused SEVERE eye pain. I was super sensitive to light, even inside my house at night, could barely open them at all even with sunglasses. They were very dry and sandpaper like. I felt I had the worst case of pink eye for 4 straight months. Went off the pill and literally the next day my eyes were completely back to normal. And my dr changed my pills a couple times to adjust the other issues with them and they all did the same thing.

Are you against a tubal?? I don't do well with birth control. Hormones make me mean lol my tubal was so easy, in and out and just cramped for a couple days after. No problems so far!

@countrypeaches42013 awe thats tough hon. It is the same with us (no local family for help) and the only reason I got mine is because I was still in the hospital from birth and he was already off work.

@countrypeaches42013 I get this. My family were very helpful for a few months after I had Journie, now not so much lol I have no experience with an IUD so I can't say anything about that, but regular birth control and I don't mix, & we for sure knew we were done with kids so a tubal was a great option for us. My husband just had 70% of his liver removed (it grew back of course), his gallbladder removed, 2 of his ribs broke and his sternum messed up from the way it healed. So I wasn't gonna ask him to get a vasectomy, I figured the tubal would give me an excuse for a break for a couple of days anyways lol do you not do well with birth control pills?

I've had nothing but issues with the pill and I've tried multiple times. I'd love a tubal but I dont have a couple days to recover, I'm the sole caretaker of the 6 of us and do all the kids stuff exclusively and I'd be afraid I would overdo it too soon after the procedure and hurt myself. I just wish he'd done this last year while I was pregnant instead of just now getting around to doing it and then being moody that they can't do it as soon as he wishes and I could feel the way he looked at me after his phone call that I should do something about it so we dont end up with a 5th while waiting for his appt

I had the copper iud. I was done with hormones but wanted a reliable birth control. The insertion wasn’t pleasant but wasn’t awful either. I bled for a few days afterwards. My first 2-3 periods were crampy and heavier than usual. After that, things evened out. My periods were longer and heavier on it but I believe that’s because it was an actual period that wasn’t influenced by hormonal birth control. I would get it again in a heartbeat but my husband just got his vasectomy a few weeks ago.

My husband is going to get one once they call him for a consult and whatnot but dont want a baby in the mean time. And so I'm just looking for birth control options until then.

The iud or whatever is only long enough until he is able to get a vasectomy. The soonest procedure he can get done is June-Sept 2022

Hmm if only needed for a short time I am not sure I’d do iud. It could just be my experience but I wouldn’t want to go through the whole adjustment period only to remove it so soon.
