Not saying this to be a smart ass but I’m very curious to know why people don’t evacuate when they tell you to during these hurricanes. My husbands friend sister is stuck in her attic with her 16 year old son and her pregnant friend. (They are being rescued now) but like I don’t understand what possesses you to stay behind especially if you have a child. As soon as they say “hurricane on the way evacuate” I’m loading my car up with our irreplaceable stuff, few pairs of clothes and we gonna be on our way. Definitely not gonna play with it while pregnant and put the baby at risk.

Well.... Some people are without a job so limited money (pandemic and all) and I saw some news articles where they upped the gas prices so people couldn't afford to evacuate.

@supermomof4
Exactly. Not everyone has family out of the hurricanes path. And they upped the gas prices. Some people couldn't afford to fill up their tanks to get far enough away.
Justgotaname ··
I just want to say the gas prices went up because the storm was impacting the Gulf, therefore oil/gas availability is affected. I don’t want people to think prices were raised to prevent people from leaving.

@outnumbered, they may be the ones who supply to your state.

I definitely understand if those are the reasons why people stay because it seems like fema doesn’t really help unless you’re caught in the middle of it. However, this women in particular had options. Her brother is friends with my husband and he felt it was irresponsible for her to stay back with his nephew. They are coming here now to stay with him so if it was always a option like he claims I don’t get why she in particular or other people in similar situations would stay behind.

If I had to guess (I've never been in this situation) maybe they cant afford to leave. I couldn't imagine being that bad off though, that you had to risk your life and the life of your loved ones. 💔

Not being mean but that was just not a very well thought out statement lol

Not everyone has the money to stay somewhere or family they can stay with or a car to get out. Its easy to sit back and say what you would do but until you are in that situation you won't know. Prayers to all who were hit by the hurricane
AliciaNoelle··
I understand that completely but still can’t understand why someone who has options like family members to stay with, people to help them would still stay behind.

I used to question that myself when I was younger but I am sure there are many reasons why they are not able to just up and leave. Also a few that are too stubborn to leave as well.

Because everyone will have the same idea. I personally wouldn’t want to be stuck on the highway during a hurricane because of gridlock. I mean we’re also still in a pandemic. 🤷🏾♀️
