Hey mamas!!! So I had a job interview today, it went really well until the end when he was complaining about his past employee who was a single mom and kept having to leave early and come late to take care of her son. I obviously didn’t mention I was a mom, but what would you guys do in this situation? I have another interview tomorrow and I think I have a good chance at getting the position, but that comment gave me a bad feeling. Idk what to do!

That would be a huge red flag for me. I wouldn’t want to work for someone that speaks badly about their employees and isn’t understanding about those things.

That’s what I was thinking too. Especially during a first interview I thought it was very weird.

@babybump21, They probably have a toxic work environment. Bad mouthing employees during an interview because someone needed flexibility to take care of their kid? Nah, gtfo. That’s unprofessional and rude. Whenever I have to come in late or have called out to take care of my child my boss always tells me “of course, family first.”

If you haven’t already, ask questions about what the culture is like in the department/company. How long do people stay? Why is the position available? Do you have other options or you really want/need this job? If you really need the job I get it but he sounds like an asshole already.

He's legally not allowed to ask, so he was probably trying to get you to say something yourself.

@babybump21, I wouldn’t take a job that complained about a mother being a mother.

@babybump21, I wouldn’t. Shit happens. It’s good you have back up daycare and babysitters but they shouldn’t fault you on having a child. Agree w other comments that they said that bc they can’t legally ask you since it’s federally illegal to disqualify someone from a job based on having children. There’s a job shortage for everything right now so you’ll find something else.

Aww man I’m not sure what I’d do! In like companies who like a good work life balance for their employees. I mentioned how the hours would be wonderful for this new position I’m starting mid September since I can get my kids from school without them being in after for too long if at all. And they were like yasssss that’s really important. I was kinda shocked 😳 lol
