We had a weird encounter yesterday when walking the dogs. The 13 year old and I.
I was walking Albus and Ruby on a double leash and they were walking with Percy in their arms because he was done walking.
A car drives by
The car stops about 500 feet away
An old man gets out
He walks towards us
I don’t notice anything strange. He asks about where he might be able to get a dachshund like ours. He has a 10 year old dachshund he says that he thinks is lonely.
He gets closer. Albus starts growling and postering protectively in front of me (he’s never done this). Ruby gets behind me and is whining. Percy is shying away from him. I tell my kiddo to keep walking down the street but not to indicate which house is ours.
If you would ever meet Albus. He loves EVERYONE. Just 5 minutes earlier he was desperately trying to get a lady walking across the street to pet him. He loves. All. People.
My kid is not walking the dogs alone anymore.

Definitely not! I have never had a dog misjudge a person. That's freaky. What always surprises me is the people who I think look innocuous and my dog goes batshit crazy barking at them, and the people who look sorta sketchy to me that my dog is fine with. They must really read energy we can't pick up on. There's this one teenage girl who walks by our house and my dog absolutely cannot tolerate it. Creeps me out.

I told my husband he probably thought I was a kid also just out walking with another kid because i look so young.

Oh no! Dogs definitely sense things from people we dont. I too have a dauchenhound, and she is such a little sweet pea, most of the time, so when some rando has her on edge and I mean shes scary AF. 😅 I always follow her gut about that person's intentions.
I'm glad nothing bad happened though, hopefully said persons stays away from your area.

Dogs do sense things from people, my pup LOVES everyone and the last time I had an odd feeling about someone he did too he was barking and growling at this guy. Trust your gut and your dog. Hopefully this said person doesn’t come back.
