Have any of you moms given birth at home? Because of covid I'm afraid to give birth in a hospital. So I'm considering switching to a midwife.

My die date is today and I have a midwife who will come to the house once I go into labor with this baby. I'm at peace with my choice for a home birth and actually looking forward to it. Praying that I don't have to transfer to hospital but have a back up OB just in case so they already have my files. If I have to transfer to hospital I have to go alone bc DH will need to stay with our girls and we don't have anyone who can accompany me or watch them. So home birth is our hope! Always wanted that route with our first but it took until baby 3.0 to find a midwife who does home births in our area.

That's another reason I want to do it at home because I can have my husband and girls with me. The last time I had one we had a back up plan in case it was needed. I just didn't make it too far because I miscarried.

@momofkem_sam I def understand. One of the girls on her had an outside nurse come into her relatives home & gave them covid 😢 if wasn't for covid i would be all game for a home birth but I don't trust people. At least you KNOW at a hospital the whole building has to follow protocols and be vaxxed/tested & masked up. And it's cleaner nowadays too and you get your own space. It was nice. And they try to kick you out as soon as possible so you don't have to stay so long lol

I think it's more of the doing it alone that scares me. Because here we can't have anyone with us in there so I think that's another reason I'm skeptical

@momofkem_sam you can have your spouse/whoever. All hospitals allow at least ONE person with you. You just can't switch persons but they won't make you be in there alone.

@ksmommyx3 Unfortunately that's not true. There have been many mom's who have had to deliver solo bc even partners/spouses weren't allowed due to Covid. It has gone back and forth where I live. My friend is a labor and delivery nurse here and has had many ladies forced to deliver alone. So the best thing is to check the local hospital policy and it can change weekly. I have had to miss my OB appointments bc they won't allow my girls in with me, even only one, right now due to the rising cases and they wouldn't allow my husband at all even if the girls were not with me except when I was having a medical flare up of a preexisting condition and needed the physical help. 😭

I did with my second. I had my last one during covid and it was perfectly fine and clean. It is probably more safe to deliver at a hospital since they follow protocols & most are vaxxed. You never know what a midwife or nurse can bring into your home or how if they are being safe.

Yeah you have a valid point. I've already lost 2 babies so my nerves are torn and I'm trying to do whatever I possibly can to protect my unborn baby and my babies at home.

I didn't. You could discuss the options with a midwife, see if you're a good candidate for home birth. I will say that generally speaking, hospitals are some of the safest places to be right now because they follow really strict protocols. Most covid spread is family/friend gathering, casual workplace, that sort of thing. And they discharge you in like a day if you have an uncomplicated vaginal birth and like 2 for a c section. You get in and out. Our hospital has a separate women's pavillion for maternity that is apart from the hospital. Do you have a birthing center near you?

Good luck in whatever you choose! These are stressful times.

Unfortunately we don't. I live in a little small town so all of ours are in one hospital building together. And also I work in a nursing home so it scares me tremendously. I want to take maternity leave asap. I don't see my doctor for another 2 weeks I'm going to see what he suggests

@outnumbered Yeah but it's all I can do at the moment to afford my bills so I can't just quit. If I leave I lose everything I have 🤷🏽‍♀️

@outnumbered I know lol but low key I want to quit. I mean we get tested every week but I'm still terrified.
