I think I might have to hire a genealogist once things are better, because I think I have quite the mystery on my hands….
About 18 months ago I did ancestry and 23 and me. I wanted to see if there were more answers about my Dads side of the family by doing so. While I found pretty much everything that I knew about, it turns out it’s my mother’s side of the family that I have questions about. The easiest way to untangle this mystery would be for my aunt to take the test but I can’t get her to do it, and I paid for it.
In a nutshell, I think my grandfather on my moms side isn’t really my grandfather. She looks NOTHING like her siblings and I’m not matching with any of the people who are claiming to be cousins on that side. I think my grandmother cheated with her cousin and made my mom. That cousin was already married and created the son who created my mystery family member. Sounds wild but possible.
I’ve been lied to all my damn life about who I am. I’ve been through a lot being bi racial in a racist family. I just want the truth regardless of how ugly it is. Auntie I need DNA

Oh I’m pretty sure by now she feels that way. She was just fine with my genealogy search when it had to do with looking into my fathers side. As soon as this person who could be my uncles daughter came up and I started asking questions, she got quiet. That’s when I started coming up with crazy scenarios

That’s easy to figure out without your aunt. Follow the DNA!!! When I took my test I had this 4th cousin match on my moms side that I couldn’t place on my tree. They didn’t know where we came from and I couldn’t figure out where they were. Doing some digging I realized that their family and my great great grandmother lived in the same very very small town. Turns out my great great grandmother had an affair with someone in this other family the Rich’s and got pregnant with my great grandmother Stella. Not the husband she has listed as the father.

I’m trying to follow the DNA and our mutual matches lead back to my maternal great grandmother and her sisters. Nothing from that paternal side is coming up so far and we are supposed to be related through the same grandfather. There’s only my aunt left on that side that I know of personally. I’m still investigating, I’m sure it’s gonna get juicy.
