My sweetness has been asking for awhile to do cheer (her coach is amazing) and now try outs are coming. Here I am eating some crow realizing cheer is a sport 😂 and these girls are amazing, winning the international summit champions so my question lovelies is who’s daughter does competitive cheer. Let’s hear your experience. Do you travel? She’s currently at three days a week in gymnastics level one almost level two so just trying to gauge how cheer would go. Let’s hear what you’ve experienced.

I'm not a cheer mom or gymnastics mom yet but in high school I did both and it was the most amazing experiences ever!! I did high school cheer but also I was in competitive cheer where we went competition's all over the US. I took gymnastics for tumbling. I was the flyer in both high school and competitive cheer, so I had stunt practice every single day. I on top of this played basketball, softball and ran track so I can definitely say, cheer was the most challenging for me! It was so much fun. Your daughter will do amazing and have a blast while doing so!!

I'm a cheer cousin and my cousin absolutely loves cheer. I think it can be great, I just have the caveat that it's also a dangerous sport. She has had back injuries and several concussions over the years, and during her most recent concussion scan they found a brain tumor.
So I know this is INCREDIBLY Debbie Downer, and I apologize for that. But I do feel it needs pointed out that when they're doing all those amazing flips and formations, sometimes they hit the ground. So safety is my #1 concern.
People think so much about football and contact sports as dangerous, but these kids are being thrown 10 feet in the air with no protective gear.
I'll go away now.
I think it's high energy and exciting, but people have to know their limits.

@heatherlou88 I really hesitated because I didn't want to sound like a jerk. I just think the risks aren't talked about much. Thank God you weren't hurt more seriously! People always talk about how dangerous football is (and it truly is, I get that) but these kids are extremely competitive, always pushing for higher acrobatics, crazier stunts, and they have no helmet, no pads, just trusting someone else to catch them who may not. I would keep a close eye and be at the practices to be sure safety is more important than awards.

yes! & Thank you! You're right. The risks are definitely not talked about! It's fun but can also cause serious injury if not done correctly or if you're careless.

@jenx, no Debbie downer here just a mom and one who cares!! Trust me that is always in the forefront of my brain and a big concern at this age
