Oh no, someone is actaully coming for you about this, like it's your fault your son did this? 🙄 obviously kids will be kids, REGARDLESS. I'm sure it had nothing to do with were you smoked. IMO, at that age, he knew not to do that, he made the decision to do so, that's on your son for making a bad decision not YOU as a parent.

I would ignore at everyone who wants to say otherwise, until they have parented a teen, they find it easy to lay blame on the parent for the childs mistakes, because they havent experienced parenting an adult like person making decisions on their own.

I'll clarify I didn't think any post was about you just stating exactly how I feel on smoking in general nor did I thinkyou did it with him there. You can be my mom, dad, aunt etc. I'll still tell you it's disgusting period, and I agree that your son is old enough to know better, if my neices who are 10 and 9 and my autistic son know it's bad for you he should know better and knew what he was doing. The fact that he almost burnt your house down or could of, heaven forbid I'd be livid too and definitely start emptying out the tray after a smoke.

Teens usually buy cigs (yup it happens) or get them from friends.

I guess if you are a smoker then it would be even easier to access one.

An sorry someone saying that to you. As a very mischievous person I was growing up an I could remember most of them. Once we see a adult leave we do stuff so dont be hard on urself. I did countless things growing up. That now that I'm older im like wow!! I did what. 😱 he could have grab something else an still cause a fire. Very sorry for ur situation. I know we something come here to vent an sometimes things just get bad.

@icebergahead, @jenx, ive always told my kids it’s gross don’t do it. And how it can be expensive. We’ve even been telling them we are trying to quit. My husband and I both are. We cut out a few cigarettes a day and have now switched to lights trying to cut out a few more. I was hoping being honest with them about it the whole time it would help them to not smoke. I don’t know what I could have done different. I don’t know how I didn’t smell it. I think it’s because I keep a sweater in the back room that I’ll grab and throw on as it going out to smoke. Then I’ll come in and take it off before walking into the rest of the house. So it has a faint scent of smoke on it. I am still just dumbfounded and numb

In 8th grade, we burned tissues in my bffs room and set her carpet on fire. We didn't think a fire would happen, our 8th grade brains couldn't process that far ahead. We absolutely got punished by our parents and I will tell you we never did that again. The experience scared us so bad, so hopefully this is a lesson learned.

You shouldn’t have to clarify anything for a single soul, especially on this app. People are judgmental and act like they’re perfect. I’m so sorry that you had to come home to this big mess. And screw whoever is assuming shit they don’t know

I started up smoking when I was teenager. Horrible and really wish I hadn’t. My parents smoked as well so I would just steal theirs or I had friends I could get it from. There was always a way regardless if my parents didn’t smoke.

Same with drugs. My parents never did it but I could access it through others.

No need to clarify yourself kids/teenagers can and will always find a way if they wanted to.

I don’t think any post was specifically toward you but I think your situation sparked some thoughts & conversations on here. Not about you, just smoking in general.

I was a smoker from a young age for several years & I know a big part of that was watching my mom when I was younger, she quit when we were old enough to call her out on it but I definitely think that having a smoker for a parent made me more likely to try them bc if my mom was doing it, it must not be so bad ...but I quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant the first time & I have never went back. Did it suck for awhile? Yeah. Do I still have days that I want one? Yeah.... But it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I didn’t want to be setting an example of being a smoker bc it’s hard to tell your kid ‘hey this is bad, don’t do this’ when they see you doing it daily. Ya know.

Hopefully this experience keeps him away from them & pushes you & your hubs to also abandon the habit so they’re not so easily available to your kids in the future.

And I'm so sorry that it happened to you. Teenagers do dumb shit, they just don't think. This is NOT your fault. Again I'm so so glad that you're alright and your family is safe.
