So as y’all know, my son Oliver is autistic. He talks a little bit but not much. And he didn’t even really start talking until he was almost 2. He now knows his numbers 1-10. He knows all kinds of shapes, including the differences between oval and circle. He knows, can say, and can point out almost every letter of the alphabet. The past two weeks it’s like his vocabulary just exploded.
His new words:
Black, white, brown, blue, red, owl, guinea pig, thank you, and dinosaur
I am so proud of him. I’ve been working with him on it so hard and I’m so happy that the practice is starting to pay off.

@raisinglittlegamers, thank you so much! I did get the speech therapist number through his Medicaid so I’m just waiting for the lady to reach out

@jaquelinerachelle, 👏💙 thats so wonderful to hear about your son! Congratulations to both of you, it’s so wonderful to see progress and I’m sure Oliver is proud of himself too.
What do you do to help him if you don’t mind me asking , my son just turned two and says about 6 words so far his doctors aren’t concerned but I am and want to help him

@madrex2, jumping in on this, I have a son with a speech disability who has been in speech since 2. It’s great you reached out to a speech therapist and are being proactive. Boys statistically talk later than girls by about a month, so any doctor who uses this line to delay speech services is very uneducated on current research. So much changes between age 2 and 3 and the earlier a child who needs help gets help, the better their outcomes are as they get older.
Both the other moms on this post have great ideas on how to encourage speech. If you’d like additional resources, look up Cari Ebert Seminars, Mrs Speechie P, or the Speech Sisters on Facebook or IG. They all share some really good info on getting young kids talking.
@humblewarriormama, thank you my s.o thinks I’m over obsessing about it but i rather a professional tell me he does or doesn’t need help then have him struggle , and I don’t have fb or ig but I’ve been on YouTube all day and found some good videos
