How about not acceptable to BE ABUSIVE PERIOD SO HE WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY aBOUT HER WHEN SHE IS CRYING OUT FOR HELP.
And goes the other way around, women should not be abusive as well.

Hell it's not acceptable to treat your SO that way AT ALL, let alone tell them not to tell anyone. The man is obviously guilty and doesnt want others to know what kind of person he really is.
