I can tell you this for sure. When I was working, I worked with moderately wealthy people (like $1-15 million dollar net worth usually, sometimes a lot more. I had some Beverly Hills home owners also).
You'd think they would be happier than you and me, not necessarily so. Happiness definitely comes from within, your relationships with others, and your values.
I will never understand the fashion market and how some steer towards teens whom most barely could buy a dam lunch meal, let alone $200 sneakers to walk on the same dam pavements.
And the blessed part of being me is I realized and embraced this as early as my teenage years and can only now calculate the savings I've incurred by loving so frugally. Thanks for the reminder!!!
That's how it started for me, coming from an impoverished family in my formative years, but unlike my sister who was big on name brand and followed the cycle, I embraced the fact that paying less didn't make it worth less(to me) and broke the cycle. At 38, I am 100% debt free with one mortgage paid off and the home is now a rental. I drive old cars and keep them maintained. I wear a $10 watch and love it more than anything, always replacing it with the same one(from Walmart). I live on a budget, am not wealthy, but feel incredibly rich!!! Very soon I will have debt again as I am currently looking into a new property purchase, but it's the first step to realizing my biggest dream(if it goes through) bc of the concept in this post. I'm not Jones, never have been, never want to be. I have friends who make 10-20x my yearly salary and they are down to earth people who no one who does not know them would ever suspect such financial wealth of. Their humility keeps me grounded so I don't forget where I come from as I live this blessed life now. Obviously our knowledge of one another is limited, you and me, but I sense that you're truly good people with a heart and understanding it's not what a person owns that gives them value, but the values they possess. I hope I will pass this along to my children in quick order and that they too will understand this. Hugs mama!!! Oh, and DIY, I'm still there by choice. It's great!!!
@icebergahead, @xryztalroze, my first computer was built with the help of my best friend. We found tons of useful parts after 9/11 because most offices had to move to the upper westside. It was my frankenstien.
I never cared for expensive or brand name clothing or whatever. Now I do like Calvin Klein so I have a couple panties from there, 1 legging and a shirt from there but other than that, the rest of my clothes comes from rainbow
