I woke up early because i googled the housing voucher i currently own and all the landlords that have that voucher tenant complain that the rent is never paid by that conpany on time or not even paid at times. I am about to move to an apartment that is bigger then I wanted because the standerds with 2 kids is 2 bedrooms so its low income but its probably expensive and most likely i would have to come up with the rent. What do you moms think i should do ? Stay in the shelter longer and find a cheaper place or leave and be stuck with a big rent i cant pay :(?

If you live somewhere that accepts ur voucher you will never be responsible for the money owed to them by the voucher agency

Idk how it all works but is wait if this is the case cause you don't want to get kicked out for not being able to pay it. Then you'd either end up back in the shelter starting over on lists or homeless.

I would think that once you have the voucher, it wouldn't be your responsibility. You SHOULD just give it to the landlord and your part is done.

I mean if the landlord is on the list as having his property available to be leased under the state's rules for such things, dealing with the voucher company to get their payment is just part of the deal. 🤷‍♀️

I would maybe make a couple calls to the voucher company and landlord in question, if possible, and ask just this. "In the event something happens with the voucher, would I be expected to cover the rent"? I would THINK that making a voucher holder responsible for missed payments would be a pretty pointless program. If you could pay all the rent, you wouldn't need the voucher....ya know?

I would get ALL these answers in writing and keep the info with your lease info. If you can, it'd be better if they could add it into the lease, what would happen if the voucher didn't go through.

I read reviews of other landlords who had feps vouchers and they say the program always pay the rent late or not at all and dealing with those people was pointless. I read a story of a mom who trusted the voucher program after comming out of the shelter and didnt check to find out she is getting evicted and had 2 kids and pregnant
