Hats off to all the women who did laundry before washing machines...just did my husband's mechanic clothes in our tub because ours is broken and it is exhausting. We are rural, so going to a laundromat would be just as much trouble
It was pretty empowering though to find a reasonable and affordable alternative while we find a new one.

I used to do it by hand when we had no machine, growing up. Yup. I used to have bad bruised knuckles. My mother had a big metal washboard we put over the sink. This was when I was very young and then later in my teens when I lived with my dad I did it all by hand, once again.
I love my washer machine now and appreciate what it does. Easy peasy.
I still wash a few delicates by hand and only air dry.

More like my knees!! Omg. Luckily Dawn helped get all the mechanic mess out of the clothes pretty easily...whew. Dawn, detergent, vinegar rinse, rinse. 😳

Oh goodness. I bet that was a good work out. 😅 My husband works on machines and he's always covered head to toe in oil, I couldn't imagine trying to wash his clothes by hand. 😅

I couldn't believe I got them clean. The water in the tub was black when I started 😑

I find that hand washing the clothes gets them cleaner than using a washing machine, lol.
