We got rid of my son’s pacifier about a month or so ago. And he has done fine. But that attachment has shifted to another object. Hats. He has always wore them here and there randomly but since getting rid of the paci it has turned into a severe attachment. I’m talking wearing a beenie hat 24/7. Even to bed. Anyone else experience this? Help?! I’m hoping we can transition to a regular hat when it starts warming up.

Meh, it's just a hat, let him have his little bit of comfort. We ALL deserve that much! 🤷‍♀️ Pick your battles Mama. I'd MUCH rather him be wearin a hat that suckin a dang paci. He'll move onto somethin else, or outgrow the phase eventually. Just let him be him I say. If a hat is what makes him happy then a hat it is!

Yeah. I’m fine with it but it’s soooooo bad like he lost his mind when it was dirty and I had to hand wash it quick because we made cookies and it was covered in flour haha. But we have ordered more to help with that issue. No joke this kid has wore the hate for going on 5 days straight. The only time it has been off was for his baths. And he will willingly let his hair dry and right back on it goes. But I agree. Much better than a paci. Could be so much worse. I just worry because it’s such an attachment to the extreme at the moment. But luckily we live in the Midwest and it’s winter. Haha

Yes, I went through this at that age with my son. I concluded it’s a sensory seeking issue. He looks for things to comfort him which caused a severe attachment. Pacifier is gone but that hat sure looks good and warm and comforting. Next summer it could be shoes or holding something in his hands all the time. All have been temporary phases, it’ll change as he explores more and his little world opens up in his eyes...
If it turns into a thing where it makes him uncomfortable like sweaty and he hasn’t transitioned on his own then I would start introducing hats that’ll keep his head cooler, different types of hats like visors and baseball caps, fedoras, etc and let him find his style.

Thank you. I’m open to him picking whatever. I just worry because of how attached he is and how it’s evolving. Today he found mittens and refused to take them off all day until his hands got to sweaty. I just laughed. He is something else. We bought him some hats for summer so let’s hope we can transition well. I appreciate the feedback 💕

@tiera_shaye, I know what that can be like. My son has autism and he’s a sensory seeking lil thing. When he was that age it was on that same level
of attached/obsessive and he didn’t talk and said maybe 15-20 words total so it was extra challenging. Now that he’s 6, it’s an accommodation at school to have something in his hand and a wiggle chair to keep him in his seat. He’s even got this dog stuffed with lavender essential oil beads he can’t go without right now. That dog gets strapped in the seat belt next to his car seat and packed into his backpack for overnights. He rubs and sniffs it all the time and it has its own pillow. He’s usually not a stuffed animal kid but I think the beads and weight have made it a sensory stuffed animal to him. It’ll evolve over time and change and be okay.

Normal!!! Yes, my daughter also loved hats or a special toy. It will pass eventually but don't expect it to be over night. Lol. My girls' new obsession is dresses. It'll just change from one thing to the next and the next and the next over the years. Best of wishes!!
