Absolutely. Money doesn't make anyone. Children remember moments more than they remember material things. They'll outgrow toys and clothes but not memories
That's what I was thinking. Like make pancakes on Christmas morning and watch Christmas shows. Let them do something fun and messy. Bake cupcakes and let them make a mess frosting them. I remember those sorts of experiences more than I remember any one gift I got over the years. I remember eating home made Chex mix and watching the parade on TV tucked up against my parent, that cozy feeling of warmth and love. Gifts are nice, sure, but they don't make lasting memories, and it breaks my heart to see moms sad about not having a room full of gifts for their kids. And stuff is so expensive, everything is $50, $100, video game systems are $500 for crying out loud.
@jenx, exactly! I remember the excitement of rushing downstairs to see the gifts, but what I remember more are all the things you just mentioned. Cookies and brunch with family and watching Elf all day are some of my favorite things about Christmas growing up.
Yess i feel that! I see alot of moms angry & heart broken about Christmas because they paid bills. That was a great choice. And any great parent would choose shelter n food over toys. !
I agree 100%, especially right now covering the bills and food is taking a lot of the limited resources. Like most things, America has taken a simple tradition over the years and made it into something over the top an ridiculous that not everyone else can live up to and it makes the children feel bad. Like Santa didn't care about them.
Enjoy your beautiful babies this Christmas, mama. <3 Family is everything.
