I did. When my oldest was born she was failing hearing tests and there was some concern about her heart so genetic testing was done to rule out some particular conditions related to ears and heart. That being said, I have also refused certain genetic testing for myself so I understand the hesitation

@isabellesmom93, yes. It’s a grey area but I’ve also heard that sometimes it can be used as a preexisting condition and cause issues. I would consider the pros and cons in your specific scenario. Would knowing change anything for you? Would it give you an answer so that you can better coordinate treatment? In my daughters case I felt that it would. In my case it would’ve just been something that could indicate I’d be more likely than the average person to get cancer and that was not something I wanted to test for

to be honest I’m not really sure. He was recently diagnosed with autism so it’s more for him to know the odds of passing it on and also the odds of me and my husband having another autistic child.

maybe you could leave the decision up to him when he’s older then to decide if he wants to know the odds of passing it on? Of course that doesn’t address the odds of you and your husband having another autistic child.

I have not yet due to life insurance. Currently looking into whole life policies. But I have a known rare genetic disorder. Because of my positive results, I will never be able to have life insurance.

I see. My son was recently diagnosed with autism and his pediatrician highly recommended us going through with genetics. I’m just trying to see if the pros outweigh the cons 😫
