What do you do about a child that always wants things to be different than they are? Whatever we do my oldest doesn't want to do. It's never right. He wants to go to daycare on days we don't go, he wants to go to a different daycare he went to a few months ago, or the babysitter that cant watch him anymore. If we stay home he wants to go somewhere if we leave the house he wants to come home. Nothing is ever what he wants to do

It’s a phase unless he’s been doing this for a while then there might be a bigger issue. My son is like this but he’s 2 and exercising his independence. We negotiate with him all day long and nothing is ever good enough. Maybe your son needs more positive attention or he needs to be more involved. He’s old enough now to start making his own decisions. The daycare thing obviously is out of his control but try to give him control over other things. Do you let him pick out his clothes in the morning, let him pick his own breakfast, let him pick a show to watch. There are so many things he can start deciding on his own. My daughter has been picking her own clothes since she was 2. No she doesn’t match but who cares. For breakfast I give her 3 options to choose from.

Sounds like he's fightin for some kinda control over his own life and gain a sense of self. Why don't you start givin him choices in things so he feels involved. Like when you're runnin errands sometimes go just you and him and say this is what we gotta do, how do you wanna do it/what you wanna do first? Or we can go eat here or here, and let him pick. Let him pick out his own clothes, just little things like that. I think they'll start makin a big difference.

I feel this post. It is a constant battle in our household with my 6 year old. We have done our fair share of moving, a couple of new schools, and we are now in a spot where we will be settling down. He misses his old house, school, friends, etc and it seems like he is never happy. Taking him for a walk or to play outside is like pulling teeth. We are currently in the process of having him diagnosed for autism, adhd, anxiety, and one other thing I can't remember off the top of my head. It has helped a little bit having him talk to a counselor once a week, but there are still difficult days. I truly hope things get better for you. No real advice on my end, just wanted you go know you aren't alone.

@spud that's like my son as well. If we play a family game, he wants no part in it and would rather play alone. Unless it's video games or possibly sports he is no where to be found.

Sounds like he wants to have more of a say in his life.

Does he ever get a choice in daily family activities? For example does he get to choose what's for dinner or what board game you can all play as a family?

I usually ask him what he wants for lunch. He always tells me McDonald's but I'm not getting him that for lunch every day 😅 usually when I give him choices he chooses things that are not options.
