A patient just went from calm to combative and paranoid with bad hallucinations in the matter of minutes. I can’t wait til nursing school to learn about what makes a person tweak like this.

Мама дочки (6 лет), беременна (1 нед.)
This happened with my mother in the hospital. They were giving her pain meds and she was also taking her own as well. She made herself have a mini stroke and was in psychosis for 2 weeks.

This patient was in for CVA so I’m guessing he was having some kind of psychosis. Also being in the icu for a week will bring a little psychosis on its own

I'm not a nurse but have worked OT rehab for 15+ years. My most likely guess is he is still bleeding in his brain or there is a pocket of blood pressing on his brain. It could be a bad reaction to meds, he could have been drug or alcohol dependent and detoxing. Those are the few that come to mind. Is he on a vent? My husband worked ICU and said some people feel that vent and become aware of it and go nuts, but usually they keep them sedated until they can explain what's going on.

Omg yeah we see a lot of people pulling out their tubes! The patient started saying weird stuff and the nurse increased his precedex which he’s been on before. Then shortly after it got soooo much worse.
